Standing In Front of God With Integrity (Part 1)

Friday 8:35 AM–9:50 AM Buckingham Palace Main 1
Mimi Feigelson
Text & Thought
Imagine blackmailing God or questioning His/Her moral standards while standing in front of the Divine!

Is there anything that you desire in your life which would push you in this direction? How did Channa, Shmuel's mother, claim what was hers (Brachote 31b)? How would you?

An open heart and mind seasoned with honesty are required for this session.

Ritual & Prayer
The section of our liturgy titled Eilu D’varim - These are our obligations - is incorporated into the Shacharit, the Jewish morning liturgy. Taken from the Talmud, these can be just words or they can define our deeds. Our question becomes: how can we transform our prayers into actions that give meaning to our lives?

Joseph’s Role in the Descent into and the Exodus from Egypt

Friday 8:35 AM–9:50 AM Buckingham Palace Lobby
Jennifer Gersch
Text & Thought
In this week’s parsha, we read about the changing generations, from Joseph and his brothers to Moses and Aaron. A new Pharaoh rises up in Egypt, and the children of Jacob descend into slavery. In this session, we will investigate Joseph’s role in the Israelites’ change of status in Egypt. As a dreamer, what did he know? When did he know it? How did he visualize its end?
Readings from "P(OR)OUS"
Being an English-language poet/translator in Israel

Friday 8:35 AM–9:50 AM Camelot A
Linda Zisquit
Arts & Performance
American-Israeli poet and translator Linda Zisquit will read from her new work, "P(OR)OUS." The long poem "Porous" is a work-in-progress, made of many threads exploring repetition and change, desire and loss. A sequence of poems called "Watchers and Sleepers" focuses on art and the meaning of human relationships during a time of intense violence. A group of small poems called "Or" dovetail with the concerns of "Porous."
