When Larry’s primary caretaker, Uncle Murray, becomes unable to care for him, Larry’s Bedford Street community rallies together, with some technical help from UJA, to protect his lifestyle and insure his independence. Nominated for an Academy Award, the film is fast becoming a model for communities across the country.

Depending on who you ask, Jewish life in Russia is either still covered by an iron curtain or viewed through pink glasses. American Jews have advocated for years to "let my people go" and were instrumental in starting the process of getting millions of Jews out of the Soviet Union. What about those who stayed? In this session we will discuss "the real deal" - the hungry elderly and Nazi victims being fed every day by the Jewish community; success of popular intellectual venues; the infighting that takes places between different Jewish organizations, and, of course, obstacles in the "community" building process. Participate in the debate.
